IT’S THE GLOBO CRACKER!!! AND ‘MATE’ WITH LEMON!!!

This cracker is very typical of us, it’s made out of sour starch. You must try it to understand.

Cariocas go to the beach and don’t stop eating their favorite snack: globe crackers and drinking mate (a type of tea) in a very chilled gallon with or without lemon or just a delicious lemonade.

In 1953, the brothers Milton, Jaime, and João Ponce, due to their parent’s separation, moved to São Paulo with their cousin. He owned a bakery, and the brothers began to make these special crackers and sell them on the streets of São Paulo. The brothers came to Rio de Janeiro the following year and started to sell these special crackers on the streets of Rio. Based on the success of sales, they were hired by Globo bakery, so they named the cookie after the bakery. Globo.

Later, the Ponce brothers formed a partnership, which continues to this day, with Mr. Francisco Nunes Torrão, and the new company is renamed Panificação Mandarino LTDA. But the crackers that you will find on the beach are still called biscoito Globo (Globo crackers or biscuits).
